Vase and Bowl Collection: TWISTED

This collection of vases and bowls explores the themes of growth, movement, and transformation, drawing conceptual inspiration from the flow of life and the natural spirals found in Irish cultural heritage and nature. These concepts, which have played a significant role in my previous works, continue to evolve here in a more playful, experimental approach.

The collection is characterized by dynamic, twisting forms that appear as though they were digitally prototyped or 3D-printed. However, the pieces are the result of a tactile, hands-on process rooted in traditional mold-making techniques. This project embodies the idea that growth is not linear but occurs in cycles and spirals, mirroring patterns found in nature and life's continuous process of change.

At the heart of the design process was a playful approach to form creation, achieved by reconfiguring and twisting conical shapes. The collection was born from a visual 'game' with separately cast plaster cones that were repositioned, twisted, and combined to create new, unexpected forms. To preserve this unique form, I created a mold system that allowed selective casting. One of the most innovative aspects of this project was the development of a custom mold system. Instead of casting complete circular forms, I devised a method to selectively cast only certain areas of the form. This process involved designing molds where individual plaster cones could be inserted and removed, allowing specific portions of the circle to be cast.

Spirals are symbols of growth, cycles, and the passage of time, and in this project, they are visualized not through literal spirals, but through implied motion and fluidity in the twisted, conical forms.
