BOWLS AND VASES

Size: bowls approx.: 20cm
Vases: from25cm to 30cm
Material: stoneware, earthenware
Technique: slipcast, pressmold

My work is deeply rooted in the observation of natural growth and organic forms. Inspired by the simplicity and elegance of nature’s own design, I draw from the shapes of seeds, shells, and nuts. These forms, with their inherent symmetry and subtle irregularities, guide my creative process and conceptual approach. The quiet transformation that occurs in nature, from seed to sprout, shell to skeleton, is a recurring influence that shapes not only the physicality of my work but also its deeper symbolic meaning.

This year marked a pivotal shift in my practice as I began creating from my home in Slovakia. It was a period of exploration and self-reflection, allowing me to reconnect with the natural environment that has always been central to my work. This transition encouraged me to seek new pathways in both technique and form. The process became one of discovery — a search for clarity, direction, and artistic evolution.

The physical process of creation is as essential as the conceptual framework. My vases are press-molded from stoneware and carefully hand-carved into their final shapes. This method allows for an intimate relationship with the material, where every cut and contour reflects my intent and intuition. In addition to the vases, I have developed a series of bowls, which I cast from earthenware. These bowls are further elevated, both figuratively and literally, through the addition of legs. This subtle yet significant alteration shifts the bowl from a utilitarian object to a sculptural presence, creating a playful tension between function and art.

My glazing process is a continuation of this exploration. I approach it with curiosity and a spirit of experimentation, testing the interaction of high-temperature glazes to reveal unexpected surfaces, colors, and textures. The unpredictable nature of this process is something I embrace fully. Just as nature is never static, the glaze offers an element of surprise, inviting chance to play a role in the final outcome.
