Exhibitions are important for the creation of every artist. They are a challenge, a shift; through creation, a person steps 'out into the open,' where they are confronted with feedback from the audience, people, their impressions, and opinions. They are a unique celebration of art and of the person who has been creating something for a long time, and thus, without a doubt, an invaluable self-reflection and satisfaction.
International Triennial of Silicate Arts, Kecskemet, Hungary

The initiative of presenting a competition which includes both glass and ceramics is a bold and ambitious step and should prove to be a rewarding one. Both art forms involve the use of silica and both need fire in some way to make them permanent. While there are many similarities between these two art forms, it is the differences which will make the resulting exhibition an exciting one.

The International Ceramics Studio in Hungary has always taken the initiative with programs including workshops, residencies and study; and their collection of contemporary ceramics must be one of the most comprehensive in Europe.

The competition of silicate arts has attracted many fine entries and not only demonstrates the trends in clay and glass art but shows the breadth of styles and issues that artists are currently examining in their work.

Emanation: Sculptural Bowl Series 2006

I am pleased to present my latest work, titled "Emanation," which has been accepted for exhibition. This piece comprises four bowls arranged in a square formation, collectively creating a large image of an outward spiral. Each bowl is not only distinguished by its color variation but is also crafted using distinct techniques, representing the four classical elements, the four cardinal directions, and the four aspects of "persona."

The spiral motif serves as a significant neolithic symbol that appears in various cultures, often found on stones and ceramics. For me, this spiral embodies the concept of Emanation as articulated by the ancient philosopher Plotinus. His metaphysics of emanation describes a flowing process originating from the Divine—the One—which acts as the source of all existence while remaining transcendent in its inherent nature.

Through "Emanation," I aim to evoke contemplation on the interconnectedness of all things, inviting viewers to reflect on how different elements unite to form a cohesive whole. This work serves as a dialogue between art, philosophy, and the natural world, mirroring the complexities of existence itself.
