The Royal Dublin Society (RDS) is an esteemed Irish philanthropic organization and members' club, established as the 'Dublin Society' on June 25, 1731. The Society was founded with the noble aim of fostering cultural and economic growth in Ireland, particularly through advancements in husbandry, manufacturing, and other useful arts.
The RDS Visual Art Awards celebrate and promote artistic excellence among contemporary Irish artists, providing a platform for emerging and established talents. These awards are a testament to the organization's commitment to enhancing cultural life in Ireland, supporting the arts, and encouraging the appreciation of visual creativity.
By recognizing the contributions of artists and fostering a thriving artistic community, the RDS plays a vital role in the cultural landscape of Ireland.
The collection of bowls I submitted to RDS in 2006 is characterized by dynamic, twisting forms that appear as though they were digitally prototyped or 3D-printed. However, the pieces are the result of a tactile, hands-on process rooted in traditional mold-making techniques. This project embodies the idea that growth is not linear but occurs in cycles and spirals, mirroring patterns found in nature and life's continuous process of change.
